Greening The Golden Years Podcast: Joyce Emery, the Green Granny

Editor:  Since Joyce and I are mentioned in the same AARP article, Tree Amigos:  Older activists are logging on-and spreading the word, I thought it appropriate that you meet her.  She was one of my first Greening the Golden Years guests in May of 2007, follow this link to the podcast: Greening the Golden Years: Meet The Green Granny!".  "The Lindberg Report" is soon to become an integral part of the Green Options network of environmental journals, and the Greening the Golden Years Podcast is expected to return.  In the meantime, you can read my articles and hear my podcasts on Planetsave, and I also write for Gas2.0 and Ecoscraps
joyceemery.jpg"My guest today is Joyce Emery, a resident of Ames Iowa, and a young senior who is walking her talk. Joyce has two websites, Green Granny and Green Seniors. Greening the Golden Years Podcast: Great-Grandmother, Activist, Ex-Con and Now Mayoral Candidate

Editor:
This is the second of two podcasts from the Green Options series, "Greening the Golden Years", which disappeared when the site underwent massive reorganization. Since receiving requests for the podcasts, I'm including them here.

She’s back, ready for another challenge and promising to stay active as an environmental protester. Betty Krawczyk is in the news again, this time planning to run for Mayor of Vancouver, BC, Canada in November of 2008. I talked with her after her release from the Alouette Correctional Center a few weeks after our first interview, and she spoke of many things: the new political party she’s joined as a candidate, the ills of Vancouver, and what she plans for it’s future should she be elected Mayor.

Greening the Golden Years Podcast: An Interview With Veteran Protest Leader Betty Krawczyk

Editor:
This is the first in a series of two podcasts from the Green Options series, "Greening the Golden Years", which disappeared when the site underwent massive reorganization.  Since receiving requests for the podcasts, I'm including them here.

Back on August 2, 2007, I did a podcast featuring three women — two Chileans and a Canadian — who had run afoul of the law in their respective countries. The Canadian is Betty Krawczyk, and I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing her by phone from her prison cell.

Have Eco-Anxiety? You Probably Do, But There's Help

(This is my Planetsave interview with Melissa Pickett of Santa Fe, New Mexico, concerning eco-anxiety.)

More and more people are showing up at their therapists these days with signs of what is called eco-anxiety, or fear concerning environmental issues.  Santa Fe, NM therapist Melissa Pickett says this unrest has been growing in the last two years, and may be the tip of the iceberg.

Michael d'Estries wrote about Melissa in May, and I had the occasion to interview her recently about this issue, and the field of eco-psychology.

Melissa spent several years in the corporate world as a banking executive and trainer for a marketing firm.  In an effort to sharpen her people skills, she went back to school, earning a Masters Degree in Counseling.  Finding the field personally rewarding, she shifted her business emphasis from organizational development to private counseling.

Melissa has been in practice since 2000, and is President of  Soulways Center for Conscious Evolution.  The first signs of eco-anxiety emerged in sessions with her clients on a large scale within the past two years, and appears to be growing.  Her work has led to interviews on Canadian television, in TIME Magazine's online edition, and publications in Spain and Brazil.

What is eco-anxiety?  How do we know if we have it, and what can we do to ease the discomfort?  Our interview is here...

Greening The Golden Years Podcast: Hops Have Feelings, Too

(Note: This podcast was originally published on Green Options as part of it's "Greening the Golden Years" podcast series.  Green Options is undergoing massive reconstruction, and the podcasts have been removed for the time being.  Since The Lindberg Report will become a major part of the Green Options network, and because of the popularity of this podcast, I've chosen to present it here for those who may not have heard it.  Enjoy, and comment)

Just recently I received an email from a senior, Mr. John Lane, who’s become very interested in a group called "PETH," but he failed to say what it was all about. So, being the curious one, I called him and had the most "interesting" conversation. Look out, PETA — here comes the People for the Ethical Treatment of Hops.

"Age Shall Not Weary Them"

(Note: This podcast was originally set for publication on Green Options as part of it's "Greening the Golden Years" podcast series.  Unfortunately it never made it off the site due to reorganization of Green Options and it's companion site, Planetsave.  This is it's first airing, and I hope you enjoy.)

Five senior citizens, residents of Australia, who are committed to the environment, reversal of damage already done to our plant's eco-system, and passion to not let it continue are the subjects of today's podcast.  Their stories are featured in an article published by the Sydney Morning Herald.

More proof that individual effort, based on one's skills and background, are empowering the groundswell of grassroots environmentalism around the world.

Nuclear Energy is Clean; Renewables Damage the Ecology

(This podcast was originally presented on Green Options as part of their "Greening the Golden Years" series.  Currently, Green Options is in the middle of a massive restructuring project, and my podcasts have disappeared for the time being.  I've picked a few to present here since they've received so much comment.  I hope you enjoy.

It was a few months back that I read an article espousing the joys of nuclear power plants and the "rape" of the land imposed by sustainable energy sources.  Here are my comments
